Vijay itching to star in remake of Rajini’s Moondru Mugam

Sources close to Vijay say that the actor has been itching to star in the remake of superstar Rajinikanth’s 1982 super-duper hit film Moondru Mugam which had Rajini in triple roles. The film was a colossal success at the box-office and ran for more than 250 days. Raadhika, ‘Silk’ Smitha and Rajalakshmi had essayed the three heroines’ roles in the film.

Rajinikanth’s hit films have always been in demand: be it with theatre-owners for re-releasing them, with leading actors who want to star in remakes of those films or with actors who merely want titles of Rajini’s hit films for their new films.

Dhanush, Rajini’s son-in-law, has starred in films bearing Rajini’s super-duper hit films of the eighties such as Polladhavan and Padikkadhavan. Vishal and Karthi had Naan Sigappu Manithan and Naan Mahaan Alla (in that order), which were titles of Rajini’s super-hit films.

Vishal’s upcoming film has now been titled as Paayum Puli, title of a film which starred Rajini and released in the early eighties. Ajith starred in Billa, another film which starred Rajini and became a super-duper hit in the 80’s. However, Ajith’s Billa 2, a sequel, didn’t do well as its script was a new one and wasn’t borrowed from a Rajini film.

Vijay is said to be willing to use the title of Thanga Magan, another super-duper hit Rajini film, as the title of one of his films but he hasn’t been able to get the title from Sathya Movies. He now reportedly wants to star in the remake of Moondru Mugam, where Rajini dominated the screen in triple roles, pending approval from Sathya Movies, producers of the Rajini-starrer.
