S.P. Jananathan, director of the national award-winning film Iyarkai, has only made four films in a career lasting 12 years. A creator to the core, Jananathan has never compromised on commercial elements to make his films.

Right from his directorial debut Iyarkai (2003) till his latest film Purampokku, he has always ensured that his films have substance in them.
Purampokku has now been rechristened as Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai. It has Arya,ShaamVijay Sethupathi and Karthika Nair inlead roles.
Jananathan doubles up as the producer of the film besides penning the story, screenplay and dialogues and directing it. Varshan is the music director and N.K. Ekambaram is the cinematographer.
Commenting about the name change, Jananathan said “Purampokku has many meanings to it; though it is used in a colloquial manner, it has deep-rooted meaning. It is a word which has jelled with Tamil tradition for many years now.
We opted for a change in title not bowing to anybody’s demand. Porampokku refers not only to uncared-for land and buildings and some individuals but also to mountains and glaciers.
“Everything in this world belongs to all of us and not to any particular individual; in order to drive home this message, we opted to modify the title. The audio launch would be held in the second half of April and the film would be releasing in theatres on 01st May,” concludes Jananathan.
